Chuck Valecek
COMING SOON!!!!!!! Next Official release of King of the Board will support
Inter BBS action! Not just sharing high scores but actually playing agaisnt
other players from different BBS's. Its about 75% completed as of 1/22/96
Version 8.21 dated 3/20/96
Had a report that if a User had an extremly LONG last name, the user would
always come in as a new user. Corrected the name handling routine.
Also in the last release the KOBUTL17.EXE required the runtime modules.
Corrected that also.
Version 8.20 Dated 1/22/96
NO CHANGE IN EXE FILE
Finally found out why some Sysops end up with a 0 byte KING.USR file.
If you went into the KOBUTLx program and tried any of the User options the
program created a 0 byte file, corrected this so now if the KING.USR file
does not exist, it will be created.
Version 8.20
Recompiled the DoorFrame libraries to correct a possible problem in the
Julian date routines.
Recompiled Door with the new DoorFrame routines
Version 8.19 01/25/95
Changed Point screen to from 5 to 3 seconds
Version 8.19 01/11/95
Corrected a slight problem when a user who was in first place was allowed
to play, he would be allowed to play all day! Or until he answered correctly.
Add a 5 second delay to the "You have been challenged" message
Version 8.18 12/21/94 Happy Holidays!
Well looks like I screwed up the Alias in the last release, had the test
for the command line misspelled.
If your BBS allows alias's and it is passed with the drop file then run
this program with the /ALIAS on the command line to force the Door to
use the alias instead of the name.
Had quite alot of complaints that if a BBS had alot of users with the same
last name you could not tell who you were. Well since I am only limited
to 10 characters for the names there isnt much that I could do. So lets
try this out and see what happens. This release will use the first initial
of the users name and the rest of the last name to make up the 10 character
name shown on the pyramid. This may make alot of you happy and maybe not.
What I need is FEEDBACK on this change. If it's not working out then I will
remove it.
Version 8.17 10/19/94
Tried to make some more adjustments for the boards that use Handles or
Alias's. Not sure if this is going to help.
Also some reports of scoring problems when using points.
Version 8.16 06/22/94
Well had nothing to do so I played with the door some more. Add some more
graphics to the bulletins and pyramid display.
Did have a report that after the question file had reached the end, the
NEXTQUES.DAT file was not being reset - Corrected that!
Had some complaints from sysops running the Door on a 486DX/66 having
"KeyBoard Timeouts". As it turned out its not this Door but any door that
was compiled using DoorFrame libraries and compiled on a 486DX machine.
It has something to do with the MathCo in each machine. I have tried
something a little different in this release to see if it going to work.
If you are experiencing this problem check this ZIP out for a file that
will describe how to get around this running a Door.
I have been asked in the past to support Aliases. Well I am going to give it
a try in this release. If it dosn't work out, I may remove it. I need feedback
from you folks!
On the command line if you specify /ALIAS the door will look for the alias
but if it dosn't find it then the users name will be used. This has been
tested with DOOR.SYS so I am not sure what will happen with other drop files.
********** NO CONVERSION REQUIRED, JUST COPY EXE OVER
Version 8.15 04/12/94
No conversion required, just copy EXE over.
This was for BOSS at Rusty & Edie's!!!
A complaint was filed at BBS EXPO 94 that they had to press the "P" to play
the game, well now it will default to either a "P" or ENTER.
How's that for service!!!!
Also noticed that if a user elected to play and then before challenging
some one he/she decided to quit, the users stats would be updated so that
he/she could not play anymore that day. Changed that so the users stats are
updated only when he/she elects to challenge another player.
Version 8.14 02/16/94
Seems some users found out that if they drop carrier in the game the last
date did not get updated. Corrected it so that when the user elects to play
the date last on gets updated. Sneaky little buggers!!!
Version 8.13 12/06/93
Added a new option to the configuration file. This one allows the sysop
to stop the game from asking the user to enter a new question.
By request I have added a menu to the game. The user will be shown the menu
before actually playing the game. The user may review either bulletin
before playing. Options are removed from the menu based on the configuration
file and also when the game is played.
Compiled with an update to the door libraries
Version 8.12 09/07/93
Changed default on review of points for point option from No to Yes
Corrected a input problem in KOBUTL if BBS Name had quotes, new version
is KOBUTL14.EXE
Version 8.11 07/19/93
Recompiled door with the latest libraries which have refined the Fossil
Drivers routines.
WWIV Support has been dropped from the routines in attempt to eliminate
Corrupted String errors.
Had some complaints that the KOBMTD bulletin file was still screwing up.
Made some minor alterations to the code.
Version 8.10 06/30/93 & 07/06/93
Well my last change to the local display worked BUT sysops complained that
they cannot play locally without seeing the answer. So if the DOOR is played
locally then the answer will not appear on the local screen.
The 7/6 version was just to change the version number in the door.
Version 8.09 06/29/93
Boy I sure did screw this one up!!! In v8.08 I decided to show the local
system the correct answer. Well that worked fine except on the third guess
the user seen the answer! Nice guy HUH!!!
I believe its fixed now! I am really surprised that no one reported this one,
not even my users.
Also starting with v8.08 the utility for the door is KOBUTL13.EXE, any others
will cause problems with the configuration file.
Version 8.08 06/21/93
Recompiled the DOOR and it now works with Fossil Drivers!
When a user is playing the game the correct answer will be shown on the local
screen only. If the player is the SYSOP then the answer will not be displayed.
You know you can't trust them SYSOPS!!!
Version 8.07 04/15/93
* WARNING!!!!!
Due to many request from non-PCBoard sysops I have made a change to the
configuration file. There is now two (2) lines for the name of the bulletin,
and two (2) lines for the Points Bulletin if used.
The program CONVCFG.EXE will perform the conversions for you:
1) It will ask you if you want to convert the configuration file.
2) It will prompt you for names of the NON-COLOR and COLOR bulletins.
3) It will prompt you for the name of the Points NON-COLOR and COLOR
Bulletins (Is that COLOUR or COLOR?)
* Some of the systems run alias's and the last name field is blank. If the
last name is blank the DOOR will substitute the users first name.
* Found a little buggy in the KOBMTD.EXE. It would erase the SEX code for
the sysop when the file was recreated. The program will now ask you for the
names of the NON-COLOR and COLOR bulletins
* If the users name that entered the question is PREVIOUS RELEASE the door
will not show it on the screen
Version 8.06 03/09/93
* Nothing really changed in version. Some sysops are having problems with
the door detecting ANSI so I added a command line option to force ANSI on.
I am not sure what the real impact of this will be so you are on your own
Use a command line switch of /NA to force ansi on.
* The DOOR suports the PCBoard varibles PCBDRIVE and PCBDIR, use these for
substituting the drive and directory in the config file for path names;
Example: SET PCBDRIVE= D:
SET PCBDIR=\PCB2
Then the line %PCBDRIVE%%PCBDIR%\DOOR.SYS would be converted
